What Is Wellness Coaching? And, How Can It Help You?
If you are looking for a healthy, happy and balanced life…
If you know the changes to make but you don´t know where to start…
Or if you do not know what to change but you know that something is wrong…
If you have tried many times but somehow you have not been able to achieve long-term results…
Then, you might need to try something different.
As Einstein said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.”
Could Wellness Coaching, be that new approach?
The Wellness Coach is the person who will work together with you, support you in reaching your goals, with the final purpose of feeling healthy and happy.
People frequently ask me what´s the difference between a wellness coach, a psychologist, and a psychiatrist.Yes, we all use the same means to find solutions; the conversation. However, our approaches are diametrically opposed. Even though, we should all work as a multidisciplinary team, and support each other when it is required.
Psychologists study cognitive, emotional, and social behaviorby observing, and recording how individuals relate to one another and to their environments.
Psychiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, study, and treatment of mental disorders.
And wellness Coaching, under the method that I practice, is the study of the human behavior at all levels (body, mind, energy/emotions and the relation with the social and natural environment) in order to reach or maintain health and happiness.
One of the biggest differences, is that, as a wellness coach, my sessions have a proactive approach to health, instead of focusing on the disease. This does not mean that I only work with healthy people, what it means, is that we, of course, will look at the pain, addiction, unhealthy behavior, etc., but this will not lead the direction of the coaching.
My approach is not to try to stop that sickness, addiction or unhealthy behavior, immediately, because you probably had tried already many times, with no long-term results. Together we will take your goal or goals, that today might seem impossible for you to achieve, and we will break it downintosmall pieces, as small as needed to make it achievable.Month after month and little by little, you will feel better, as you will achieve those small goals, that will make you gain energy, self-confidence and control. At the end, the sum of many little goals, make you reach your big goal, with the difference that now you have acquired the tools to understand the process, and find it meaningfulto protect yourself, to find fast resources, to strengthen your willpower, to make you stronger and keep you constant, to maintain that goal long-term, and integrate it into your daily routines.
We analyze where you are at the present moment, where you want to be in a year’s time, and then, I guide you create your own road map to health and happiness, step by step, and little by little, with weekly/monthly commitments, in order to reach all your goals.
As you can see, wellness coaching does not offer you the magic pill to all your problems, because magic pills do not exist. As a wellness coach, I will encourage you to bethe main character of your own health and happiness, because no one except yourself, can achieve your goals.
